News ANZOPEN PAIRS - 2 x 4 x 2MONDAY 24 OCTOBERLabour Day dawned bright and clear - great weather, even greater entries. We ended up with 24 teams - FANTASTIC !!! It meant that both greens were in use with 6 games on each green. JACKPOT BOWLSROUND #1 - WEDNESDAY 26 OCTOBEROrganisers were thrilled when 24 players turned up to play Triples on Day One of this seasons Jackpot Bowls. After a brilliant afternoon's bowls, Team Sully took out the day from Team Kirkbride.And the first Pre Xmas Jackpot was struck this week - $30 went to Kaye Reilly, Matty Dobbyn and Wendy Coulter. So next week the Jackpot is still stands at $30:00
MIXED CHAMPIONSHIP TRIPLESSATURDAY 15 - SUNDAY 16 OCTOBERStarted last weekend and is already in the Semi Final stage with Ken, Cath and the Insane Butcher (Toby Cotter) up against Jamie, Russ and Karin - both of which are One Lifers. Whoever emerges victorious will go on to play Two Life Mike, Michele and Jim Flutey. Promises to be a battle of the Titans

HANDICAP SINGLESSATURDAY 9 - SUNDAY 10 OCTOBERWell we have our first 2011/2012 trophy winner.Completely invincible, never losing a game, the evergreen Robin Ireland showed everyone that he is truly a champion when he took out new comer Jim Savage 16-10 to become our 2011/12 Handicap Singles Winner.Well Done Robin.
OPENING DAYSUNDAY 18 SEPTEMBERRain did little to dampen the enthusiasm of bowlers at our Opening Day. With the greens awash, the 40 bowlers adjourned to the club and embraced their dark side by playing 3 games of Indoor Bowls. The Mini tournament was won by Matty Dobbyn's team (Go the Irish!!!) Following the matches a fabulous afternoon tea was had by all. The afternoon was made especially enjoyable as we welcomed new members who have come to us from Putaruru - Welcome and we hope all your bowls run true.
HANDICAP PAIRSSATURDAY 24 - SUNDAY 25 SEPTEMBERFists of rage were shaken at the rain gods as the heavens opened up forcing the postponment of Day 2 of the Handicap Pairs tournament.After such a beautiful day on the Saturday which saw a record number of teams enter - 18 in all - the disappointment in the change in the weather was evident to all.To retain the Two Life concept, the ever adaptable Match Committee tried a new method - the Butterfly Draw. Unfortunately this did not work out as hoped and it will not be used again for Trophy events. Mind you it does have its place - the committee are not sure where or when tho.LATEST NEWS the finalists have been decided - Charlie Hurlimann and Gerry Jones will play off against that dynamic duo - Peter and Lorraine Williams - take care boys - it doesnt do to come between a married couple.
CLUB HOUSE SPRUCE UPThe President and his trusty band of minions have been busily painting the outside of our Club Rooms and my goodness it's looking good guys. Dave Barbour has been water blasting the concrete walkways and the pattern his nozzle is making resembles Piscasso after a hard night. Keep up the good work Dave!More on the Spruce Up - have you seen the new paint job with our name - boy does it stand out. It looks stunning - brilliant job guys

Members of our Outdoor Bowling Club have a reputation for being sociable and providing a welcoming environment. The Club's camaderie is supporting of all players and we enjoy celebrating success. Members can play to whatever level they like from casual to competitive including inter-club and representative competition. The Tokoroa Outdoor Bowling Club's greens are the best in Waikato and are conducive to quickly improving players skills. For new players coaching is readily available. If you are thinking of giving Outdoor Bowls a go and want more information including how you qualify for a years free membership of the Outdoor Bowling Club, please contact Club President, Les Broadhurst (Ph 886 1395) or Club Captain, Neville Risbridge (ph 886 7488). History The Tokoroa Club's Bowling Club has a long and interesting history, many honours have come the way of it's members and it has risen from humble beginnings to an organisation with fine facilities and dedicated membership committed to their game and their Club.In January 1948, barely nine months ather the formation of the parent Club a Mr St J (Duke) Paxton was asked by the Commitee to advise on the laying out of a bowling green. In May of that year the Club Commitee appointed E. Nuttal and W. McHardy as their representatives to a Bowling Club Committee.By July 'working bees' were being held. Dick Evans enlisted the help of many of the local farmers who were Club members and owned trucks, to clear ground and cart sand from the roadside at the end of Mossop Road, and clay from Sloss Road to lay the base. Gavin McEwan and Doug Molesworth were just two of the local identities who contributed time to this project. Petrol was made available to those who brought tractors along, and all particapating in the work had their time credited to future subscriptions in the Bowling Club at the rate of 40 cents per hour.The work seems to have progressed slowly, for in November 1949 the main Club committee engaged a Mr RJ Oliver and a partner to finish off the bowling green. They were to receive wages of 80 & 60 cents per hour respectively, and One Pound per hour for their truck. This arrangement must have turned sour, because the minutes record that a dispute over Mr Oliver's charges, had resulted in all payments being stopped and the Club Solicitor was called in to act for the Club.The Club Minutes for January 1950 record that "the Sadust Bowling Green was a failure" and that "a grass Green would be better proposition". The committee then decided to engage a Mr Bridges to advise the Club member D. Williamson who was given sole charge of completing the project. By May of 1950 Mr Wiliamson reported that the grand total of expenditure for a bowling facility had reached $222.00, and that the green was ready for grassing.The Club President reported at the AGM held in April 1951 that the Clubs first Bowling Green was complete. 'Duke' Paxton was elected a Life Member of the Bowling Club the same year.The first committee meeting of the Bowling Club was held 21st May 1950. D. Williamson was elected President and Messrs Butler, Colsen, Goodrich, Steiner, Waldon, Evans and Osmers were the Committee. Charlie Steiner remained a member of the Club until he passed away in 1996. The original subscriptions were set at $2.50 per annum. Many changes took place through the fifties and sixties with numbers playing bowls increasing each year with the facilities being upgraded year by year. In 1971 the second green was opened and questions were asked "when are the ladies going to be allowed to form their own club?" (This was to take another ten years). The Anniversary Weekend three day tournament was instituted and brought top ranked bowlers from far and wide to play in Tokoroa. In it's hey day during the late seventies and eighties, the Anniversary Weekend Tournament was so popular that section play was competed for not only at Tokoroa, but also Tokoroa East, Putaruru and Arapuni Bowling Clubs.In 1972 the new Pavillion was opened by Mayor James (Jim) Higgins. It was extended and a BBQ area was added in 1986. In 1976 the Club celebrated its 25th anniversary and in 1981 the Ladies Bowling Club was formed with Mrs Carol Pearson as founding President and Mrs Joan Evans as Secretary. In 1986 a full time green keeper was employed "on contract" and the 'Astrograss' Bowling Green was installed in 1991.The Tokoroa Bowling Club has made great strides since those long times ago, for instance in 1953 prize money for Championship Winners was increased to $2.00.Great names in New Zealand Bowling Circles have competed on the Tokoroa Bowling Greens over the years and Tokoroa has produced and had as Club Members it's fair share of it's own Bowling Champions.The late great Robbie Robson is the greatest bowler to belong to the Tokoroa Bowling Club.
